C.W. Post Institute for Arts & Culture Showcases Artwork of Local Students

The Institute for Arts & Culture at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University has opened the third in the 2001 series of community art exhibits titled "Standards of Excellence" which features student art work from Hewlett/Woodmere School District and St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington. Students artwork will be showcased through April 30, 2001 in an exhibit co-sponsored by Tilles Center for the Performing Arts.

The Long Island Art Teachers Association has organized the exhibits for display in the Patron's Lounge (Room W1) of Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, located on the C.W. Post Campus on Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville. The exhibits rotate every six to eight weeks. The project expands the Institute's mission of making the arts an integral part of the lives of Long Island University students, faculty, staff, and the public.

"These exhibits have brought together C.W. Post and the Long Island community in a special way," says Andrew Berger, Director of Education and Outreach for Tilles Center. "It is simply inspiring to see the work of these young artists."

The opening reception will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tilles Center where teachers, parents, and students will be present. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Institute for Arts & Culture at C.W. Post was established in 1998. It serves as a clearinghouse for information on professional and academic arts activities at C.W. Post by promoting attendance at music, dance, and theater performances, art exhibits and various cultural programs. The Institute also coordinates community educational outreach programs that are offered by Tilles Center and develops long-range strategies for exploring and implementing creative uses of the arts in the university's curriculum.
