| May 10, 2001 - When Great Neck resident Anne Putterman Summers studied
art at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville,
NY, she learned more than painting and graphic design. She learned
how to envision and create a new life, which she did while working
in the oil industry where she has risen through the ranks to her present
position as a principal of Morgan Stanley. In recognition of her great
success, C.W. Post will honor her with a Distinguished Alumni Award
at its 43rd annual commencement ceremonies on May 13, 2001.
Summers earned her B.A. in Art Education from C.W. Post in 1977
and briefly studied art therapy at Simmons College. She then took
a secretarial job in the oil industry and worked her way up to her
present position on the trading desk at Morgan Stanley. Summers
puts the same vigor and sense of dedicationinto her other life roles:
wife of Robert Summers, a rabbi and attorney in New York City, and
the mother of their four children. Summers volunteers with the Carl
McCain Foundation, an organization that works to provide extra medical
coverage to families in the brokerage industry. Through their temple,
she and her children recently began working with needy families.
On those rare occasions when she has a moment for herself, Summers
reawakens the artist within. She recently painted a portrait of
her parents for their 50th wedding anniversary, and has plans to
paint her children - someday.
Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented to C.W. Post graduates
who have achieved professional success and who serve as role models
to students. Summers will be honored along with another distinguished
alumnus: Alfred Kahn, chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment, Inc.,
the company that brought the wildly popular Pokemon character to
the United States and the world.
