Korea Center Opens Library at C.W. Post
September 1998 -- The Korea Center at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island
University formally unveiled a new library in September 1998 for students,
scholars and the general public who are interested in reading and studying
about Korea.
The initial concept of the library was inspired by a donation of nearly
1,000 volumes from the widow of Professor Kim Hee Chan, who was a visiting
scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle. Additional donations
came from the following: Dr. Lee Sechun, the coordinator in Korea of the
C.W. Post Korea Center, who added books and videotapes to the collection;
Lee Young Ho, chairman of Vision Media Enterprise Company in Seoul who
provided a set of videotapes; Lee Chong Hyok who contributed his deceased
father's library; Yeu Young Ja, who contributed funds to cover the initial
expenses; and Robert Higgins, a graduate of C.W. Post who built the shelving
for the collection.
Additional support for the library came from C.W. Post administrators
- in particular, Dr. Joe Shenker, provost, Dr. Walter Matthews, a professor
of education, and Dr. Pamela Lennox, associate provost.
Dr. Chang
Boh Chee, director of the Korea
Center at the C.W. Post Campus, said he is particularly interested
in providing the resources of the library to Korean-Americans so they can
maintain contact with their motherland and sustain their cultural roots.
Friends of the library encourage donations to help expand the library's
holdings and services. For additional information, contact the Korea Center
