C.W. Post Dedicates Lecture Hall to Professor Michael
A. Soupios
Dr. Michael Soupios, C.W. Post professor
of political science, with Mary M. Lai, Long Island University Vice President
for Finance and Treasurer.
In an outpouring of admiration and appreciation, members of the C.W.
Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville dedicated the lecture
room of Lorber Hall to Professor Michael A. Soupios on October 23, 1998.
Dr. Soupios, a resident of East Northport and a professor of political
science, was lauded as a scholar, author, athlete and philosopher and honored
for his more than 21 years of service to the University. He has made history
as Long Island University's youngest dean, has authored numerous books
on ancient Greece and its philosophers, including his latest "A Hellas
Primer," and has earned seven university degrees during his prestigious
career. An avid athlete, Dr. Soupios was an award-winning noseguard and
tackle in college and he currently enjoys running ultramarathon.
Dr. Soupios is one of the most popular professors at C.W. Post, teaching
undergraduate and graduate courses in European political theory, Greek
political theory, political ideologies, public administration and organizational
theory and behavior. He also teaches courses in C.W. Post's popular Hutton
House Lectures, a program which offers non-credit courses in the arts,
humanities and sciences. Last year, he shared his familiarity with Greek
culture, ancient and modern, with a group of students he led in a tour
of Greece.
The Lorber Hall lecture room that was dedicated to Dr. Soupious was
made possible by contributions largely from his loyal students of The Hutton
House Lectures. Lorber Hall, which is the former home of financier William
E. Hutton II, is currently undergoing $1.7 million in renovations. Lorber
Hall is home to the School of Professional Accountancy and The Hutton House
Lectures.
"For so many of Dr. Soupios' students to pull together to organize
this event is a tribute to the difference he has made in their lives,"
said C.W. Post Provost Joe Shenker. "The room dedication will forever
stand as a tangible marker of Dr. Soupios' accomplishments and the contributions
he has made."
