C.W. Post Offers Five Master's Courses at
Suffolk County Community College's Main Campus


To make it more convenient for Suffolk County college students to take classes closer to home, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will offer five master's level courses at Suffolk County Community College's (SCCC) Ammerman Campus in Selden beginning this September 1999.

"We began offering graduate courses in SCCC for the first time in January and we
received a terrific response," said Dr. Joe Shenker, Provost of the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville. "Beginning this fall semester, we are expanding our course offerings into other disciplines to meet the needs of the Suffolk County community." Classes begin September 7, 1999.

Starting in the Fall 1999 semester, C.W. Post will offer the following:

  • · Selected Topics in Nutrition: Program Planning, Management and Funding: taught by faculty from C.W. Post's School of Health Professions, this course is geared toward current nutrition/dietetics professionals and is an elective course in the Master of Science degree in nutrition. Students will learn how to manage projects, conduct needs assessment, write proposals, obtain grants, and market, implement and evaluate programs. Mondays beginning September 13 from 6 to 7:50 p.m.
  • Economic Environment and the Public Sector: taught by faculty from the School of Public Service within C.W. Post's College of Management, this class is a foundation course required for the Master of Public Administration degree. Students will learn how to understand the role of the public sector in economic decision making; the nature of public goods as related to allocation, stabilization and distribution functions of the economic system; the role of private investment; relations between government and business; governmental regulations; and fiscal monetary policy and action. Thursdays from 6 to 8:15 p.m.
  • Ground Water Geology: taught by faculty from C.W. Post's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, this course is an elective class for the Master of Science in Earth Science Education or Environmental Studies. It considers the factors controlling the occurrence and movement of ground water; the hydrologic cycle; ground water regimes; theories and models of ground water flow and storage; porosity and permeability; the problems of ground water quality and contamination; and ground water management techniques. Mondays from 8 to 9:50 p.m.
  • The Supervisor in the School Setting: taught by faculty from C.W. Post's School of Education, this course is an elective in the Master of Science degree program in School Administration and Supervision. Learn the major components of the school supervisor; the nature of the supervisory process; function of the supervisor; principles of supervision; leadership styles; and the supervision of teachers and evaluation of the supervisor. Wednesdays from 6 to 7:50 p.m.
  • School Law: taught by faculty from C.W. Post's School of Education, this course is an elective in the Master of Science degree program in School Administration and Supervision. A study of the major topics of law related to public schools; sources and scope of the law; law and the organization for public education; pupils, employees and school law; school officers and the law; theory of governmental non-liability; and personal liability of school employees. Wednesdays from
    8 to 9:50 p.m.
