Three New Bachelor's Degrees Debut at C.W. Post

BFA in Computer Art

The School of Visual and Performing Arts is meeting the 21st Century head on with its new B.F.A. in Computer Art. The program, which received approval from New York State Education Department in 1996, is devoted exclusively to creating art on a computer and offers a professional training program which combines new technological skills with traditional art and graphic design knowledge.

Students of the program may take courses in a variety of new technological media including digital imaging, graphic design, multimedia on the Internet, and desktop video.

BFA in Dance Studies
A new bachelor of fine arts degree in Dance Studies also debuted in 1996. Performance dance that includes ballet, modern, tap, jazz and choreography is a primary focus of the program, but students are exposed to other areas that will enable them to pursue non-performance careers such as teaching, research, costume design and lighting design for dance. C.W. Post also offers a minor in dance and installed a new dance floor in its Theater, Film and Dance building this summer.

To be eligible for the program, students must audition and be interviewed by faculty from the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance. Ten students per year will be accepted into the program.

New Bachelor's Degree for the Information Age
In a typical day most of us will do some of these things: watch TV for the latest news, read a newspaper, search the Internet for information, drive a car or use a cash machine. Every one of these activities relies on the industry known as Information Transfer to locate, evaluate, organize, store and then quickly retrieve and display information from a variety of sources.

Today's employers need information professionals who can understand, use and lead effective information management in their organizations. To meet the needs of this growing profession, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is now one of few universities in the country to offer a bachelor of science degree in Information Transfer. This degree is offered through the Palmer School of Library and Information Science.

This degree prepares students for careers as computer support staff, software applications advisors and trainers, publishing research assistants and graphic artists, data retrieval specialists, information researchers and analysts, information technical assistants, library assistants, and network services and technology planners.
