Olympic Star Dan O'Brien
and Late Show Host
David Letterman Visit C.W. Post
United States Olympics gold medalist Dan O'Brien
paid a visit to the Post Campus on August 11, 1996 to film a comedy skit
for the Late Show with David Letterman. The skit featured Letterman and
O'Brien competing against each other in a mock decathlon, which was filmed
at C.W. Post's outdoor track facilities. The Late Show camera crew shot
for about five hours to get enough material for the three-minute skit, which
featured such sight gags as O'Brien leaping into the long jump pit and right
onto Letterman's elaborately-constructed sand castle. After filming was
over, Letterman and O'Brien stuck around for a few minutes to sign autographs
for a small crowd of onlookers. The segment aired on August 18.
