Graduate Art Students to Exhibit
Thesis Work at Hillwood Art Museum
Graduate arts students in painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking
and graphic and computer art at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University
are working hard to finish their thesis work which will be shown in two
separate exhibitions in April and May 1999 at the Hillwood Art Museum on
the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville.
The following 17 Master of Art students will have artwork shown: Heather
Brodsky of Old Westbury, painting; Wu-Kung Chang of Taiwan, sculpture;
Huei-Huey Chen of Brookville, painting; Richard Del Rosso of Hicksville,
computer art; Kelly Heider-Walsh of West Babylon, ceramics; Howard Hogan
of Locust Valley, computer illustration; Jumpei Kanshige of Japan, sculpture;
Ben Oderwald of Long Island City, painting; Kirsten Lorenz of Floral Park,
computer illustration; Maria DiGiacomo Miller of Mineola, photography;
Yk-Soon On of Korea, painting; Claudia McCormick Sibree of North Merrick,
painting; Leman Nesrin Yildzel of Islip, painting; Paul Pomeranz of Melville,
painting; Chia-Chi Chuang, of Korea, photography; Yun-soo Kim of Korea,
computer art; Mariela Popristova of Glen Cove, computer art.
The Master of Arts exhibition runs from April 12 through 18. An opening
reception will be help on Wednesday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the
museum. Admission is free and open to the public. The Master of Arts degree
is the culmination of one year of coursework and a final studio art project
that is offered to full-time day students. Many students choose to complete
their degree over five years through evening course offerings for those
who choose to remain employed full-time yet wish to pursue a graduate degree
in art.
The Master of Fine Arts degree, or MFA, is awarded to students who have
completed a two or three year program of art and extended independent research
in their chosen field. This is the terminal degree in studio art allowing
graduates to teach at the college level.
The following MFA students will exhibit a selection from their completed
body of work at the Hillwood Art Museum from April 28 to May 9: Linda Allen
of Hampton Bays, photography; Elena Cardo of Garden City, ceramics; Wen-Chi
Chen of Taiwan, photography; Michael Giacalone of Holtsville, mixed media;
Carol Kingston of Mill Neck, painting; Linda
Marbach of East Quogue, ceramics; Marjan Moghaddam of Manhattan, computer
art; Jai-Kwang Rim of Korea, painting; Allison Rufrano of Bethpage, photography.
The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Wednesday, April
28, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the museum. Admission is free. Exhibit hours are
Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 9:30 a.m.
to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information,
