George Gatta Jr. to Be Honored by C.W. Post
Sayville resident George Gatta Jr., Deputy County Executive for Economic
Development, Planning and Environment for Suffolk County, will be honored
for his outstanding contribution to public service at a May 10, 1999 golf
outing/dinner sponsored by the College of Management of the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University. Proceeds from the golf outing will help support
scholarships for students in the College of Management.
Gatta, who earned his Master of Public Administration degree from C.W.
Post's College of Management, coordinates all Suffolk County activities
relating to economic development, planning, community development, labor,
building permit review and environmental affairs. During his service to
the county, Gatta's major accomplishments include spearheading efforts
that brought a new $200 million federal court complex to Central Islip
and securing $14.4 million in state funds for a new minor league ballpark.
Prior to his current appointment, Gatta served as Islip's Director of Economic
Development.
The golf outing and awards dinner honoring Gatta will be held on Monday,
May 10 at the Hempstead Golf & Country Club. Several local business
people are helping to coordinate the event. They include: Hauppauge resident
Kenneth M. Brown, president and chief executive officer of the Margaret
Tietz Center for Nursing Care in Jamaica, Queens; Hauppauge resident Bruce
Ferguson, administrative director of the Suffolk County Industrial Development
Agency; Larry Austin, president of Austin Travel in Melville and Jamie
Austin, who serves as Vice President of Sales and Account Management; Fred
Gold, a partner with Arthur Anderson, LLP, in Melville; Sal Trifiletti,
Senior Vice President, Team Sales Leader of Key Bank, N.A. in Islandia;
Thomas Powderly, director of Astoria Federal Savings in Jericho; East Meadow
resident Bill Rose, retail systems coordinator GIM Electronics in Hicksville;
and Wantagh resident Roslyn Muraskin, executive director of the alumni
chapter for the College of Management at the C.W. Post Campus.
Golf packages for one to four players range from $350 to $2,500 and
include golf reservations, brunch, reception/dinner and raffle tickets.
Journal advertisements begin at $50. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with
brunch. A professional golf exhibition at the driving range will commence
at 11:15 a.m. with golfing beginning at noon. At 5 p.m. cocktails and hors
d'oeuvres will be served, with the reception dinner at 6 p.m. The awards
ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Special hole-in-one prizes include a 1999
Cadillac, courtesy of King O'Rourke Cadillac, and a 1999 Lincoln Navigator,
courtesy of Hempstead Lincoln/Mercury. For additional information about
