Brookville Resident Pamela Lennox
Honored by Junior League
Brookville resident Pamela Lennox, Ed.D. was honored by the Junior League
of Long Island at its 13th Annual Volunteer Merit Awards luncheon on April
21, 1999.
A lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America, Dr. Lennox was cited
for her contributions to the Girl Scouts. She currently serves as Associate
Provost for Campus Services at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University
in Brookville. She was appointed to this position by the Provost in 1995
and is responsible for overseeing the offices of Professional Experience
and Placement, Facilities Services, Dining Services and Conference Services,
among others.
The Junior League of Long Island annually presents the Volunteer Merit
Award to volunteers from Long Island's community agencies. Dr. Lennox was
nominated by the Girl Scouts for her years of dedicated service to the
young women of Nassau County. The Junior League is an organization of women
committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women,
and improving communities through the leadership of trained volunteers.
Dr. Lennox's extensive involvement with the Girl Scouts of Nassau County
includes serving on its Board of Director's Nominating Committee and the
Long Range Planning Committee. She has been instrumental in creating collaborations
between the Girl Scouts and C.W. Post and arranged for the girls to attend
classes in computers, dance and nutrition in a college setting. Dr. Lennox
also volunteered for the "Girl Scouts Where You Live" program
and drove local girls to campus for basketball and volleyball games, tours
of the TV studio and the radio studio, and a workshop on career development.
From 1992 to 1995 Dr. Lennox served as director of Professional Experience
and Placement (PEP) at the C.W. Post Campus, where she was responsible
for student recruitment, career counseling, academic advising, interviewing,
employer relations, and coordinating the placement of students in professional
work settings.
Dr. Lennox is also a faculty mentor in C.W. Post's popular College 101
course. This seven-week course addresses stress management, peer pressure,
substance abuse and values clarification. Academic issues are also discussed,
including time management, study skills, and choosing a major. She serves
as an adjunct professor in C.W. Post's School of Education, where she teaches
graduate courses on legal and ethical issues in education, career counseling,
college student development and higher education administration. She is
a consultant to both the United States Department of Education and the
New York State School-to-Career Project.
A native Californian, Dr. Lennox was Vice President of the Long Beach,
California chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, a member of the Stanislaus County
Literacy Network, and a charter member of Soroptimist, a community service
organization for women.
