Hillwood Art Museum Exhibition
Details Historic Site Preservation

Theodore Roosevelt's 1885 home at Sagamore Hill - known as The Summer White House and center of the day-to-day administration of the country's affairs during the summers from 1902 to 1909 - has been restored to its 1905 grandeur through the efforts of the National Parks Service.

The public is invited to view the exhibition, "Sagamore Hill: Preservation of an Historic Landmark," which will showcase the restoration and conservation of the 26th President's home.

On display at the Hillwood Art Museum on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University from August 13 to November 14 are objects, photos, blue prints, and furniture as well as reproductions of architectural elements that will afford visitors an opportunity to explore the techniques used to restore this historical site.

This exhibition is being held to coincide with Hillwood Art Museum's "Theodore Roosevelt: Icon of the American Century," a traveling exhibition of the 26th president's valuable personal and presidential effects, includes his Rough Riders hat and more than 120 objects depicting his prestigious and often controversial political and personal car

Both exhibitions are free and will be on display from August 13 to November 14, 1999.

Through August 31, the Hillwood Art Museum is open Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Starting in September, the hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Hillwood Art Museum is located on the C.W.
