Mary Westermann-Cicio Honored
by Beta Mu Chapter, Beta Phi Mu


Wantagh resident Mary L. Westermann-Cicio, assistant dean of the Palmer School of Library and Information Science at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY, was recently honored by the Beta Mu Chapter, Beta Phi Mu, the International Library Science Honor Society at St. John's University.

Westermann-Cicio received the chapter's Golden Anniversary Award in recognition of her distinguished, significant and consistent contribution to the profession of library and information studies. The award was presented as part of a joint initiation ceremony of the Beta Mu (Long Island University), Beta Nu (St. John's University) and Beta Alpha (Queens College) Chapters.

Beta Mu also honored her with a medal at its annual meeting during the American Library Association conference in New Orleans in June. She recently received the Provost's Certificate of Recognition, which honors C.W. Post staff members who go above and beyond their job descriptions to bring positive change to the campus.

A distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, Westermann-Cicio is currently working on her Ph.D. dissertation in the History of Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she received the Jackson Turner Main Award for her work there. She is also recipient of the Medical Library Association's Murray Gottlieb Prize, the Catholic Library Association's Librarian of the Year Award, and the Palmer School Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award.
