the Ph.D. and an advanced certificate in archives management, and the only
school of its kind in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
An experienced educator, corporate manager and information systems designer,
Dr. Koenig began his career in the corporate arena, working at Pfizer Inc.
and handling the information needs of those working to help the company
develop new pharmaceuticals. In the business world, he has also worked
as vice president of data management for Tradenet, Inc.; vice president
of operations and board member for Swets North America; and director of
development and library operations for the Institute for Scientific Information.

president of the International Society for Scientometrics and Infometrics,
and in leadership positions with the American Society for Information Science.
After many years of executive-level administrative experience, Dr. Koenig
entered the world of academe as an associate professor at Columbia University's
School of Library Service where he developed an information science program.
He later went on to serve as dean and professor of the Graduate School
of Library and Information Science at Dominican University in River Forest,
Illinois, (previously known as Rosary College).
During the seven years he was dean, the Dominican Graduate School of
Library and Information Science not only more than doubled its enrollment
at a time when nationwide enrollment in such schools was static, but also
developed a faculty whose publications became among the most frequently
cited in the country by other scholars.
Dr. Koenig is co-editor of the new book, Knowledge Management for
the Information Professional, to be published this year by Information
Today. He also serves on 12 editorial boards and has produced scores
of publications in peer-reviewed journals and is among the most highly
cited scholars in the field. His research interests ranging from the history
of printing to scientometrics, include both data design and structuring
and the impact of information and information technology on society. In
particular, he is interested in knowledge management, and the impact of
library and information services and systems upon organizational productivity.
He holds a B.A. in psychology from Yale University, an M.A. in library
science and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in information
science from Drexel University. Dr. Koenig was also a Fulbright scholar
to Argentina. He will officially join the Palmer School on September 1,
1999 and will reside in Manhattan.
The Palmer School offers an innovative M.S. program that integrates
information and library science and is accredited by the American Library
Association. The School also offers a B.S. in Information Transfer, the
only Ph.D. in Information Studies in the New York metropolitan area, and
a certificate program in archives and records management, which was recently
ranked eighth in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The master's
degree is also offered in New York City's Washington Square, and selected
master's degree and certificate courses are offered in Westchester County.
