Thunder Bird Sisters to Perform at "Turning 2000: A Millennial Weekend" Event Slated for October 16 at C.W. Post

Performing artists The Thunder Bird Sisters are scheduled to appear Saturday,
October 16 at a major celebration of the new millennium -- "Turning 2000: A
Millennial Weekend," taking place at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island
University in Brookville on October 15, 16 and 17, 1999.

The Thunderbird Sisters -- featuring Rebecca Genia, Donna Collins, Holly
Davis, Tina Tarrant, and brother, Ben Haile, grandchildren of Chief Thunder
Bird -- are an unique group of musicians, singers and writers. Their music
includes original compositions that reflect their culture. As indigenous
people (they are blood members of the Shinnecock Nation, and reside on the
Shinnecock Indian Reservation near Southampton), they are storytellers,
singing of traditional ways of life in the Natural World and our sacred
connection to Creation.

The Thunder Bird Sisters' music offers a commentary on social issues that
have historically faced their people, and continue to confront Indian people
to this day. For over 25 years, the group has traveled nationally and
internationally, sharing their "Songs of the Struggle." The blending harmony
expresses the relatedness of all things. In addition to their original music,
they also perform the works of various other artists. In all their music, the
Thunder Bird Sisters seek to personify the Native
proverb, "Walk in Beauty."

The Thunder Bird Sister's performance is one of more than 40 events scheduled
for Turning 2000: A Millennial Weekend. The three-day conference will feature
lectures, discussions, exhibits and theatrical performances that probe the
future of evolution, the arts and culture, technology, politics, health care,
the environment, spiritual life and education. Keynote speakers are Oliver
Sacks, Stephen Jay Gould, Danny Hillis, Anna Deavere Smith, and Harold Bloom.
Admission fees are: three-day full weekend pass: $100; two-day pass: $80;
one-day pass: $40. C.W. Post is located on Northern Boulevard (Route 25A),
