Coram Resident Joins Palmer School Faculty
September 21, 1999 - Coram resident Donald Wilson, a school
librarian and media specialist with more than 30 years experience
in library and information science, has been appointed a Visiting
Professor in the School Media Program at the Palmer School of
Library and Information Science at the C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University in Brookville, NY.
Wilson originally joined the Palmer School in 1988 as an adjunct
professor teaching graduate courses in information sources and
services, children's literature, information transfer, information
and data collections resources, and school media centers, among
others.
From 1970 to 1998 Mr. Wilson served as a librarian/media specialist
with the Island Trees School District where he worked with teachers
and administrators on curriculum and strove to "instill
a love of literature in children and provide them the necessary
skills to become independent, capable and competent information
users and lifelong readers and learners."
A member of C.W. Posts' first graduating class in 1959, Mr.
Wilson also has taught at St. Joseph's College and served as
a part-time librarian at Brentwood Public Library, Lindenhurst
Memorial Library, Westbury Memorial Library, and Island Trees
Public Library. He is a conference presenter for the New York
State Reading Association, the New York State Library Association,
and the East End Reading Council. Mr. Wilson has also been an
in-service teacher for SCOPE -- Superintendents' Cooperative
for the Promotion of Education. He received his Bachelor of
Arts from C.W. Post, a Master of Science in Library Science from
the Palmer School, and a Master of Arts from SUNY at Stony Brook;
he holds 60 graduate and in-service credits in various subject
areas, from Internet and computer use to alcoholism counseling
and more.
