C.W. Post Institute for Arts & Culture
to Showcase Artwork of Local Students - Exhibit Open
from October 30 to December 24
The Institute for Arts & Culture at the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University and Tilles Center for Performing Arts
will host a series of art exhibits throughout the year, each
one featuring the work of various local school districts. The
exhibits will be organized by the Long Island Art Teachers Association
and will be on display in the Patron's Lounge (Room W1) of Tilles
Center for the Performing Arts, located on the C.W. Post Campus.
The exhibits will rotate every six to eight weeks.
This project expands the Institute's mission of making the
arts an integral part of the lives of Long Island University
students, faculty and staff, and enhancing the overall educational
and cultural experience of the campus community.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for C.W. Post to come
together with the Long Island community," said Andrew Berger,
director of Education and Outreach for Tilles Center. "Not
only does this program further the mission of the Institute for
the Arts & Culture, but it provides an outlet for our best
young artists to showcase their work to thousands of patrons
at Tilles Center performances."
The first exhibit will feature the Herricks Union Free School
District from October 30 to December 24. The artwork was created
by students from each of the five schools that make up the district,
located on Long Island's North Shore.
Each of the district's three elementary schools will send the
work of several students to the exhibit. Center Street School
teacher Bill Grabowski will offer the work of students Kevin
James, Jimmy McArdle and Ray Ribichaud. Denton Avenue School,
under the direction of teacher Lori DiVito, will send the work
of students Michelle Firoozan and Ji Kim. Teacher Beth Wallace
will bring the work of Searingtown School students Kate Mirino,
Adam Lipowicz and Scott Reischer.
Under the direction of teachers Michele Klatch and Stan Dean,
Herricks Middle School students Lee Wasserman, Julie Goldstein,
Nicole Nicoletta and Caroline Shin will have their work displayed
at the exhibit. The work of Allyn Reiss, Helen Qing, Monica Lee
and Amanda Rubenstein, now at Herricks High School, will be included
within the Middle School section of the exhibit. The Herricks
High School exhibit, directed by teachers Meg Pierce, Deborah
Guillory, Christopher Coffin and Richard Ganes, will feature
the work of students Amanda Cheung, Erica Chung, Nina Boneta,
Michael Jean-Bart, Chirag Domadia, Jaclyn Benzoni, Lindsay Kunion,
Robert Gribbon and Lauren Camarta.
The Institute for Arts & Culture was established in 1998.
It serves as a clearinghouse for information on professional
and academic arts activities at C.W. Post by promoting attendance
at music, dance, theatre performances, art exhibits and various
cultural programs. The Institute also coordinates community educational
outreach programs that are offered by Tilles Center, the Hillwood
Art Museum and C.W. Post academic departments, and develops long-range
strategies for exploring and implementing creative uses of the
arts in the university's curriculum.
