C.W. Post to Host Youth Violence Epidemic
Forum
October 27, 1999 - The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University
will host a public Youth Violence Epidemic Forum on Wednesday,
November 17 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Hillwood Commons Cinema.
The conference will examine the warning signs of violence and
offer advice on how to prevent future outbreaks, and is sponsored
by the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at C.W. Post.
Topics to be discussed include: reasons why people become
violent; warning signs of violence; what to do if someone shows
signs of violence; anger management; and suicide. A video, co-produced
by the American Psychological Association (APA) and MTV, will
also be shown.
Dr. Eva Feindler, a speaker at the Forum, is director of the
Psychological Services Center at C.W. Post. She is directly
involved in programs to help children and families manage anger
and resolve conflict, and has authored several books and articles
on this subject, including Assessment of Family Violence.
Dr. Feindler has served on both the APA Commission on Violence
and Youth and APA Task Force on Violence and the Family, and
has been appointed to psychology boards for Nassau County and
New York State.
Amy Reichstein, a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology
Department at C.W. Post is coordinating the conference with Dr.
Feindler. Her specialty areas of training include family violence,
hate crimes, and HIV/AIDS, and she has served as the State Advocacy
Coordinator for the New York State Psychological Association's
Organization of Future Psychologists.
