Great Neck Resident Wins French Poetry Award

December 22, 1999 - Great Neck resident Michael Sussman, a French major at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, has won First Prize in the Hofstra University French Poetry Contest. The award was presented earlier this year by Hofstra University and the American Association of Teachers of French. Michael earned advanced university-level accolades for his recitation of the poem "La Cigale et Fourmi" by noted French poet and short story writer Jean de la Fontaine.

Sussman, a graduate of Great Neck North High, was chosen out of hundreds of students from several universities. The judges were French professors who rated contestants on criteria that included delivery and pronunciation.
