WCWP-AM Goes Digital
Campus Radio Station Boasts 21st Century Technology
WCWP-AM, the carrier current radio station at the C.W. Post
Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, New York, has
been revamped with state-of-the-art digital equipment to support
its new and varied format. The studio, equipped with a 16-channel
digital audio board, mini disc recorders and players, a digital
audio tape system and new digital recording and editing systems,
will serve as a training ground for students in C.W. Post's Communication
Arts program.
In addition to airtime on campus cable channel 63, the new
WCWP is being webcast on the internet. Anyone with internet
access can enjoy the programs of WCWP-AM on the World Wide Web
at http://www.liu.edu/radio/radio.html. There, listeners can
enjoy the AM programming each day from 9 am to 11 pm, including
a morning show, alternative, classic rock, Top 40, speciality,
metal and urban music, as well as talk and interview shows and
news and sports updates.
Made possible through a generous gift from the Benjamin and
Elizabeth Abrams Foundation, a long-time supporter of the WCWP
stations at the C.W. Post Campus, these new improvements put
the AM station at the forefront of communications technology.
"Our students are learning to use the latest, most up-to-date
technology, preparing them for careers in radio and other broadcast
fields," said Dr. Judith Cramer, director of WCWP. "Few
colleges can boast this comprehensive studio. We are pleased
to offer cutting-edge training; our students now have an invaluable
opportunity to excel in the field of radio broad/webcasting."
WCWP-AM is located in the Benjamin and Elizabeth Abrams Communication
Center on the C.W. Post Campus. In addition to the AM station,
the building houses WCWP 88.1 FM, part of the Long Island University
Public Radio Network. With its sister station, WPBX 88.3 FM
(located at the Southampton College campus), WCWP 88.1 FM broadcasts
jazz and National Public Radio news and information from 3 a.m.
to 7 p.m. each weekday. Student-hosted alternative, metal, urban
and ethnic/specialty music complete its broadcast day.
