Nelson DeMille to Spend an Evening at C.W.
Post
Book signing will benefit scholarship program
Best-selling author Nelson DeMille will return to the land
of his 1990 novel, The Gold Coast, when he hosts a book
discussion and signing Thursday, March 16, 2000 at the C.W. Post
Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y.
During "An Evening with Nelson DeMille," the author
will speak about his new novel, The Lion's Game, answer
questions from guests and sign copies of the book. A special
drawing will give guests a chance to have their name appear as
one of the characters in DeMille's next book. The author will
pick a name from drawing entrants. Hors d'oeuvres and wine will
be served.
This special event is being sponsored by the C.W. Post Alumni
Association, along with Fleet Bank, to raise scholarship funds
for C.W. Post students.
DeMille is no stranger to Long Island. He grew up here and
attended Elmont public schools. He studied at a local college
for three years before joining the Army and spending a year in
Vietnam as an infantry platoon leader with the First Cavalry
Division. He returned to college after the war to finish his
degree in political science and history. The Vietnam experience,
however, had changed DeMille's future forever. He wrote a war
novel that was never published, then held a series of jobs before
settling down to write New York City police detective novels.
His first major novel, By the Rivers of Babylon, was published
in 1978. His 1992 novel, The General's Daughter, was made
into a movie starring John Travolta, and production is scheduled
to begin this spring on the movie version of The Gold Coast.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person and include an autographed
copy of The Lion's Game. Chances for the Name/Novel Opportunity
Drawing are $1,000 for five chances, $750 for three chances and
$500 for one chance. Proceeds from this event will benefit the
endowed scholarship program sponsored by the C.W. Post Alumni
Association. This fund will enable many students to continue
their pursuit of higher education for years to come. This event
is also supported by Barnes and Noble College Bookstore. For
