8th Annual Teen Speak Out on March 22 at
C.W. Post
March 7, 2000 - Teenagers from every town on Long Island are
invited to attend the 8th Annual Teen Speak Out
program on Wednesday, March 22 at the C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University in Brookville. This year's program - which
will deal with the issue of Domestic Violence - is hosted by
the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at C.W. Post.
Teen Speak Out is a conference about abusive and healthy
relationships, sexual harassment at school and violence in dating.
According to Dr. Eva Feindler, director of the Psychological
Services Center at C.W. Post and co-coordinator of the event,
"Education is our first line of defense and a useful tool
in the prevention of domestic violence among teens. As educators,
we need to teach our teenagers that violence is not acceptable
in any relationship." The formal program and workshops
give teens an opportunity to learn about present teen issues,
discuss feelings and responses and become educated about strategies
for stopping teen violence in the world today.
Discussions and workshops will be held on teen violence with
several distinguished panelists, including Bruce Castellano of
Mineola High School's Increase the Peace human rights
and anti-violence project; Brian Reiss of B.O.C.E.S.;
Mima Modica from the Nassau County Coalition against Domestic
Violence; and Officer Kalvin Davis of the Nassau County
Police Department's Fifth Precinct. Eva Feindler, director of
the Psychological Services Center, will also present, and the
conference will feature a special guest speaker who will discuss
her own experience in an abusive relationship and illustrate
first-hand its dangers and warning signs.
Teen Speak Out will take place in the Hillwood Commons
Lecture Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 22. The fee is $12
per person, including the event and a box lunch & beverage.
Registration deadline is Friday, March 5. For additional information,
contact Alison Byers Reilly at (516) 299-3211.
The C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University is located
on Northern Boulevard (Route 25A) in Brookville, New York.
