C.W. Post Enrolls Largest Freshman Class in 5 Years
In September, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University expects
to welcome 780 freshman - the largest freshman class in five years- to its
Brookville campus. That figure represents a 7.3% increase over last year.
In addition, C.W. Post, a private institution of higher education, is
expected to enroll more than 1,000 new graduate students.
University officials attribute this growth to the construction of several
new technology-intense facilities and the anticipated construction of a
new $11 million recreation center; the campus' nationally recognized career
placement center for students in Cooperative Education, which has a virtually
100% job placement record; enhanced scholarship and financial aid assistance;
and the introduction of three new degree programs (the metro area's only
Ph.D. in Information Studies; M.S. in Advanced Practice Nursing, and a J.D.
in Law/M.P.A in Health Care Administration, offered jointly with Touro Law
Center.)
"Reports from my counterparts at other colleges across the country
indicate that their freshman enrollments will be flat or up just slightly,"
said Gary R. Bergman, the Associate Provost for Enrollment Services at C.W.
Post. "In that context, an increase of over seven percent from last
year is significant."
Joseph Shenker, Provost of the C.W. Post Campus, added that this freshman
class has a strong academic profile and that more freshmen are receiving
academic scholarships that recognize high SAT scores and noted academic
merit. "This year, we are pleased to report a 22% increase in the number
of freshman scholarships awarded," said Shenker. "One out of seven
new freshmen will be an academic scholarship recipient," he added.
Classes for the fall semester begin September 3.
