Ronald J. Sylvestri Honored by C.W. Post
April 12, 2000 - Ronald J. Sylvestri, vice president of Institutional
Sales for Fleet Investment Management and trustee of Long Island
University, received the Mary M. Lai Model of Faith Award from
the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Sunday, March
5, 2000. The award was presented by the Catholic Campus Parish
of C.W. Post in the campus' Interfaith Center. Mr. Sylvestri
is a resident of Bronxville, NY.
The Mary M. Lai Model of Faith Award -- named for Long Island
University's Vice President for Finance and Treasurer -- is presented
annually to an individual who exemplifies Catholic ideals of
devotion, compassion, understanding, healing and commitment and
successfully incorporates these ideals into both personal and
professional life. A devout Roman Catholic who attends mass daily,
Mrs. Lai has served as the Chief Financial Officer for Long Island
University for more than 50 years.
In addition to his work with Fleet Investment Group, Mr. Sylvestri
serves as Chancellor of Long Island University's regional campuses
in Rockland and Westchester Counties. A 1966 graduate of C.W.
Post, Mr. Sylvestri is the former vice president for Barclays
Bank of New York.
Mr. Sylvestri is affiliated with the Committee of Independent
Colleges and Universities of New York State. He is a past member
of the advisory board of directors for the Family Service of
Yonkers, Chair of the New York chapter of IAFP's Advisory Board,
and a member of the advisory board for the Center for the Study
of the Presidency. He is also a Knight of Malta in the American
Association of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a member
of the Board of Governors for Pius XII Foundation, Inc., vice
chair for Friends of Saint Dominic's Foundation, and a member
of the Cardinal's Committee of the Laity in Westchester and New
York City.
Mr. Sylvestri has received numerous accolades from Long Island
University for his community service and distinguished career.
He received the President's Medal in 1974, the Distinguished
Alumnus Award in 1974, the Dedicated Service Award in 1985, and
the Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1990.
