Long Island University's School of Continuing Studies Offers On-line Courses

April 21, 2000 - Students interested in taking a college continuing education course without leaving the comfort of home can take advantage of a bevy of new on-line courses offered by the School of Continuing Studies at Long Island University.

There are more than 90 non-credit continuing education on-line courses offered in a variety of subjects, including the Internet, computers and small business management, legal studies, conflict resolution and personal enrichment, and Teaching English as a Second Language. As in traditional classroom-style courses, on-line students also have direct access to professors and can interact with other students within the course and curriculum. Feedback and communication are greatly encouraged in this cyber classroom.

"Long Island University is making education more accessible, offering people the opportunity to continue to grow personally and professionally in a completely flexible environment," said Dr. Nishan Najarian, Dean of Long Island University's School of Continuing Studies. "According to the feedback we have already received from our students and professors, we will increase our course offerings as the program becomes more established."

Most courses run for six weeks and consist of 12 lessons, two each week which can be accessed at anytime. A new course section is usually offered every month. Students can choose from courses offered through Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus in Brookville or the Brooklyn Campus. They should complete assignments and homework within the period the courses run and take an additional two weeks to complete the final exam. In most cases, a certificate of completion will be awarded. Courses start at $59 and textbooks, unless specified, are not required.
