Michael Emmerman to be Recognized
with Distinguished Alumni Award
Brookville, NY - Michael Emmerman, a managing director and
a portfolio manager at the investment management firm of Neuberger
Berman, LLC will be honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award
at Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus commencement ceremonies
on Sunday, May 14, 2000.
Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented to C.W. Post graduates
who have achieved professional success and who serve as role
models to students. Emmerman earned his master's degree in business
administration from C.W. Post in 1967. He will be honored along
with two other distinguished alumni: Richard L. Rosen (Class
of 1970) and Tina Lippert Rosen ('71), benefactors of the C.W.
Post Arboretum Initiative and members of the C.W. Post Council
of Overseers.
Drawing on the education he received while earning an MBA
from C.W. Post and his experience working with international
financiers, Emmerman also works as a SCUBA diver and emergency
volunteer on Long Island and in New York City. In fact, when
the clock ticked down to Y2K, Emmerman was on stand-by in the
bunker of New York City's Office of Emergency Management, volunteering
to help keep security forces on the alert. And when TWA Flight
800 crashed, he helped develop safety protocols for the police
underwater rescue divers.
Emmerman says his business career success supports the considerable
time he spends training police divers, developing safety protocols
for rescue teams and advising police during disasters. He also
serves as director of the Special Operations Support Group, a
not-for-profit organization that provides research and technical
advice to law enforcement and water rescue agencies, and is a
government liaison officer for the American Red Cross and an
honorary deputy chief of the New York Police Department. He lives
in Manhattan with his wife, Patricia, and their son TJ (Thomas
Justin), and has a grown son and daughter.
Dr. Joseph Shenker, provost of the C.W. Post Campus, will
present Emmerman with his Distinguished Alumni Award at the 42nd
annual commencement ceremonies which begin at 9:40 a.m. on the
Great Lawn.
