C.W. Post's "Family Business of the
Year" Award
June 29, 2000 - The search is on for the first "Long
Island Family Business of the Year" of the twenty-first
century. The Family Business of the Year Award - bestowed annually
by the Center for Family Business at Long Island University's
C.W. Post Campus - showcases the achievements of Long Island's
family-owned businesses and corporations. The winners will be
announced at a special luncheon, to be held at the Huntington
Hilton on December 6, 2000. Felix Grucci, Town Supervisor for
the Town of Brookhaven, is slated as the keynote speaker at this
year's luncheon.
Since 1995, C.W. Post's Center for Family Business has honored
Long Island's leading family-owned businesses. Former winners
- including P.C. Richard & Son, Castagna Realty Co., Moloney
Funeral Homes, Austin Travel and FALA Direct Marketing - represent
the very best in family-owned operations. Each winner exemplifies
the ideals of family values, work ethics and the keen business
sense necessary to succeed in Long Island's challenging economy.
"It is difficult to develop and maintain a successful
business and equally challenging to keep a family together and
headed in the same direction," said Owen T. Smith, director
of the Center for Family Business. "By issuing these awards
on an annual basis, we hope to focus attention on successful
family businesses as positive examples of private enterprise
and social responsibility that benefit our communities, our state
and our society."
In addition to business success, nominees each should exhibit
positive family/business linkage, multi-generational family business
involvement, contributions to industry and community and innovative
business practices or strategies. The Center for Family Business
advisory board will then evaluate the entries and select finalists
and winners for each of three categories: small (fewer than
50 employees), medium (50-250 employees), and large (more than
250 employees).
Anyone who knows of a family-run business deserving of the
Family Business of the Year Award is encouraged to submit a nomination;
in the spirit of entrepreneurship, self-nominations are encouraged.
The application deadline is October 1, 2000.
