AFS Foreign Exchange Students Departure
Day at C.W. Post, July 11
June 23, 2000 - Nearly 800 students from 45 countries, who
have traveled the world to study and live with American families,
will be leaving after their year-long stay and saying their final
good-byes to America from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island
University.
The students, part of the American Field Services (AFS) Intercultural
Programs, will use the C.W. Post Campus for their "Departure
Day" activities on Tuesday, July 11, from 5:00 am to 7:00
pm. The Campus is located on Route 25A (Northern Boulevard).
Brookville.
The event is sponsored by AFS, an international non-profit
organization that provides opportunities for intellectual and
cultural exchange in its partnership of over 55 countries. Tracing
its roots back to 1915, AFS exchanges more than 10,000 students
worldwide each year. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, AFS
recently received the United Nations Youth Award for service
to children and was named by Money Magazine as the top educational
charity in the United States.
AFS Exchange Students, including those participating in "Departure
Day," choose from over 100 educational and community service
programs in developing and industrialized countries. There,
the students spread AFS's message of "peace and understanding
in a multicultural, global society."
Now that the students have finished a full year of service,
they will assemble in the Hillwood Commons' parking lot at C.W.
Post after 5 a.m. to meet fellow students from their home countries
and continue to airports for their flights home.
There will be ample interview and photo opportunities. For
more information, contact Tricia Clarke in the C.W. Post Public
Relations Office, (516) 299-2333.
