C.W. Post Student Wins Cooperative Education Student of the Year Award

October 18, 2000 -- For the third consecutive year, a C.W. Post Campus student has won the New York State Cooperative and Experiential Education Association "Student of the Year" Award. Renata Ordon, a resident of Lindenhurst, is this year's Student of the Year Award winner. She is a May 2000 graduate of the School of Health Professions, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

The Cooperative Education Program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University has a distinguished 10-year history with the statewide association and its award. In 5 of the last 8 years, a C.W. Post Campus student has won the prestigious New York State Cooperative and Experiential Education Association (NYSCEEA) Student of the Year Award.

Continuing this strong tradition, Renata Ordon not only received a B.S. degree in nutrition, but also is employed as a dietetic intern at North Shore University Hospital in Glen Cove. Renata's co-op work experience was at Glen Cove's North Shore University Hospital. A native of Poland, Renata arrived in the United States as a child with a limited knowledge of English and American culture. Jeanette Grill, Director of Professional Experience and Placement said, "Renata is an enthusiastic learner who quickly mastered the English language and American customs."

After earning two associate degrees from SUNY Farmingdale (one in business, one in food service), Renata was accepted at the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville and admitted to the nutrition program of study. Now Renata enjoys working with mothers and children and plans to continue her career path with graduate studies in nutrition.

According to Dr. Pamela Lennox, Associate Provost for Campus Services at the C.W. Post Campus, "The University is committed to cooperative and experiential education. Through this program, Long Island University offers co-op students the opportunity to maximize their college years by practicing classroom theory and building their resume at the same time."
