Senator Hannon Obtains $10,000 Grant for
C.W. Post Career Services Office

October 18, 2000 -- New York State Senator Kemp Hannon, representing the 6th District in Nassau County, has obtained a generous $10,000 governmental grant to support and upgrade technology facilities in the Office of Professional Experience and Placement (PEP), located on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Brookville.

PEP assists students through two programs: Cooperative Education and Career Development. The Cooperative Education Program is an award-winning, nationally recognized program that places C.W. Post students in paid internships where they can train on the job, network with professionals in the field, test different careers, and graduate with a full resume.

The Career Development section assists thousands of students yearly, helping them set career goals and find jobs after graduation. Their services include on-campus recruitment, career counseling, networking seminars, and resume writing and interviewing workshops. Alumni and the public may also use these services.

The grant will allow the PEP program to keep its progressive edge, expanding its web technology by adding and upgrading the computers students use for on-line career research and resume composition, and to better accommodate the 4,000 students, alumni and community members who use PEP's services annually. Currently there is just one computer to serve everyone's needs.

"Assisting local colleges in efforts to add and upgrade computers at their facilities is a top priority in this time of rapid technological advances," said Senator Hannon. "I hope that more students will take advantage of the expanded services to be provided, simultaneously strengthening their futures and the future of New York State."

The success of the PEP office is apparent in its many honors, including the New York State Cooperative and Experiential Education Association Student of the Year Award (won by a C.W. Post student 5 of the last 8 years.)
