C.W. Post and Kyonggi University Offer Joint Undergraduate Degree Program

December 12, 2000 -- The past decade has seen tremendous international attention focused on Korea, with numerous international firms investing resources and devoting personnel to Korean organizations. It's no wonder that the most sought-after employees in this market are those who have a strong understanding of both American and Korean cultures and a mastery of their languages.

To meet the needs of this expanding America-Korea market, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, New York has teamed up with Kyonggi University, one of Seoul, Korea's leading universities, to offer a bachelor's degree program that gives students a competitive edge in the global business environment. In just four years, students can receive a degree that carries international recognition and distinction. "From language practices to networking and work experience, students become totally immersed in Korean culture -- learning by experience what cannot be gleaned from textbooks," said Young Yoo, coordinator of the C.W. Post-Kyonggi program and a resident of Port Washington.

Yoo added: "Whether you are taking over the family business, traveling to another country to work for a global organization, or working in a hospital dealing with immigrant patients, an international education gives job-seekers a distinct advantage and makes them highly marketable."

Students spend their freshman year at the C.W. Post Campus and choose from more than 100 undergraduate programs. They continue their sophomore year at Kyonggi University and stay through the following summer. This is where students have the opportunity to be totally immersed in Korean life and culture. Students can take a variety of courses, including Korean language and culture as well as classes in the major area of which they interested. Internships can also be arranged.

As a junior, students return to C.W. Post and continue taking courses to fulfill core and major requirements. Students complete their senior year with 30 credits of high-level courses. They graduate with a degree in their chosen major and a concentration in Korean Studies from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.

Students study at Kyonggi University at no additional instructional cost. Financial aid is available to qualified students. With additional course work, there are opportunities for qualifying students to earn two degrees: a bachelor's degree from C.W. Post and a bachelor's degree from Kyonggi University.

"We are proud of our special relationship with Kyonggi University," said Dr. David J. Steinberg, president of Long Island University. "We are pledged to provide the great learning tradition of liberal arts and sciences and, simultaneously, the new skills and technologies demanded by our post-modern society in the new millennium."

Students can register now for the program, which officially begins in September 2001. C.W. Post, with ties to Korea dating back to the 1950s, has many services to support this program, including The Korea Center, The Korean Student Association, and The Klar Intercultural Center.
