C.W. Post Expands Reach with Graduate Courses in Suffolk
County
Convenient Locations include Southampton, Brentwood, and SCCC
Selden
The C.W. Post Campus' renowned Palmer School of Library and
Information Science is expanding opportunities for Suffolk County
students by offering master's degree courses in library and information
science at three Suffolk locations: Long Island University's
campuses in Southampton and Brentwood as well as the Selden (Ammerman)
Campus of Suffolk County Community College.
In addition, a nutrition course will again be offered at the
Ammerman Campus of SCCC for students interested in starting or
continuing a master's degree in nutrition.
Classes begin the week of February 5, 2001 and are taught
by noted faculty from the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University.
Courses include the following:
SCCC Ammerman Campus (Nicoll's Road, Selden)
- Public Libraries: Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Learn the function of public libraries in contemporary society.
Examine public library organizations, planning, operation, resources,
services and facilities. 3 credits.
Instructor: Gerald Nichols
- Information Sources and Services: Wednesdays from
4:40 to 6:30 p.m.
Examine the process and techniques of information services such
as information access and delivery, types of resources and formats
used in information services, evaluation and measurement of sources
and services, and information-seeking processes and behaviors.
3 credits. Instructor: Sheryl Sessa.
- Clinical Nutrition: Mondays from 6 to 7:50 p.m.
A review of selected clinical conditions including hyperlipidemia,
hypertension and renal disease. Learn procedures for nutritional
assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clients.

Brentwood Campus of Long Island University (Second Avenue,
Brentwood)
- Introduction to Library and Information: Tuesdays
from 4:20 to 6:10 p.m.
Overview of the field: history, functions, its place in society,
practice of the profession in various types of settings, and
current issues and trends. 3 credits. Instructor: Luise Weiss
Southampton College of Long Island University (Montauk
Highway, Southampton)
- Introduction to Knowledge Organization: Mondays from
4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Basic principles of bibliographic control with emphasis on understanding
the function of catalogs, indexes, bibliographies, Web-browsers
and learning how to use and interpret these tools effectively.
3 credits. Instructor: M. Bruce Maxian.
