C.W. Post Professor Publishes Peterson's Newest
College Guide
Few students preparing for college today are aware that they may be eligible
to join an Honors Program that can offer them scholarships and exciting
new courses taught by top professors. Now with the release of Dr. Joan
Digby's latest book, Peterson's Honors Programs: Guidance You Can Trust.
students can be guided to hundreds of honors programs across the country
that are seeking qualified students.
In this book, Dr. Digby, senior professor of English and director of
the Honors Program at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, discusses
the philosophy and structure of honors programs in two- and four-year colleges
as well as public and private universities in the United States. She also
touches upon admissions criteria and financial aid, honors success stories,
the value seminar style learning, and perks that come with honors, such
as special dorms, independent study and opportunities for travel abroad.
Dr. Digby, a resident of Oyster Bay, has published numerous articles
on literature and honors pedagogy, and has co-authored three literary anthologies.
Peterson's Honors Programs grew out of her long-time dedication to honors
education. In addition to directing the C.W. Post Honors Program for 20
years, Dr. Digby has served as president of the Northeast Region National
Collegiate Honors Council. This past summer she led a group of honors students
on an ecological learning safari in Kenya. Dr. Digby earned her B.A. and
Ph.D. from New York University and an M.A. from the University of Delaware.
