WCWP 88.1 FM Changes Morning Format

WCWP 88.1 FM has changed its weekday morning format to offer classical and opera music between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

According to Dr. Judith Cramer, general manager of WCWP, "we changed our morning programming because we wanted to satisfy the tremendous interest in classical and opera music this community has." A combination of C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University undergraduate and graduate music majors, music faculty, and community volunteers share their expertise as hosts of the classical and opera programs.

Until February 1, the station, located on the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, had featured jazz music in that time slot. Jazz has been moved to weekday afternoons between 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and features such greats as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington, as well as the music of contemporary jazz artists.

WCWP also offers a mix of afternoon local public affairs programs, National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," student talk shows, and alternative, heavy metal, urban, blues and world music. The station serves a potential listenership of 324,000 people in parts of eastern Nassau County, Queens, Westchester Country, and Connecticut.
