Rockville Centre Police Commissioner to Graduate with
Honors from C.W. Post
The Commissioner of the Rockville Centre Village Police Department has
made the grade.
Jack McKeon, commander of 52 officers on the south shore police force,
will graduate with a perfect 4.0 grade point average when he receives his
master of science degree in criminal justice from the C.W. Post Campus
of Long Island University on Sunday, May 10. McKeon's accomplishment has
earned him two honors: the Criminal Justice Award for Outstanding Graduate
Student and the College of Management Dean's Award. He will also be welcomed
as a new member of the campus' adjunct faculty.
A graduate of Baldwin High School, McKeon has served as commissioner
of police for the Village since 1991. He joined the department as a police
officer 25 years ago and quickly rose through the ranks, serving as chief
of patrol prior to his current appointment. The department he directs has
52 sworn officers, six civilian administrators, 10 code enforcement officers,
and 20 part-time crossing guards. It is the only department in Nassau County
to earn accreditation from the New York State Commission of Criminal Justice.
Education has always been important to the accomplished commissioner.
He earned an associate's degree from Nassau Community College and a bachelor's
degree from New York Institute of Technology. He is also a graduate of
the world-renowned FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia.
Following his high school graduation, McKeon served in the United States
Army as a sergeant in Korea. He continues his service as a lieutenant commander
in the United States Naval Reserve. Currently he is a criminal investigator
and special security officer for the Reserve, and is also commanding officer
of the Reserve Detachment Unit of the Willow Grove Naval Air Station in
Pennsylvania.
McKeon, who was honored in 1997 with an award from the International
Drug Enforcement Officers Association, is married with two children.
On Sunday, May 10, the seasoned law enforcement official will be among
the 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students to participate in commencement
ceremonies, which will begin at 9:40 a.m. on the Great Lawn.
