Arts
Applications now being accepted for September 1998
In response to the astounding growth in new media technologies over the
past 10 years, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville
is offering a new master of arts degree in Interactive Multimedia Arts.
This is the only graduate program of its kind on Long Island.
This new 36-credit program, which will be offered beginning September
1998, has been approved by and is registered with the New York State Education
Department.
Courses will cover Internet and Web design, 3-D design and animation,
film and video production techniques, digital editing of motion pictures
and sound, and other areas. The program will appeal to a wide range of
graduate students and professionals in the fields of graphic design, computer
art, broadcasting, film, media production, visual arts, photography, music
and others.
According to Lynn Croton, dean of the School of Visual and Performing
Arts, "A diversified multi-disciplinary approach to the study of interactive
media arts will provide an education that equips students with the skills
necessary to develop and evolve, rather than become obsolete, in the face
of rapidly shifting technologies."
Candidates for the degree will take eight required courses which cover
a broad spectrum of fundamental theoretical and practical information about
interactive multimedia. An additional two elective courses in advanced
studies can be chosen from courses in video, film, imaging, digital sound,
performing arts and interactive design. Six credits in thesis work cap
off the program.
On-campus facilities include a state-of-the-art computer graphics lab;
a film lab with cameras and editing systems; a video/television studio
with on- and off-line editing machines; a fully digital FM radio station;
