Palmer School Now Offers Master's Courses at Pleasantville in Westchester County

September 10, 1998 - This September, the Palmer School of Library and Information Science of Long Island University began offering its master's courses at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. Pace's Mortola Library is the location of the Palmer School's classes and office space.

Pace University, located in Westchester County, is an extension site for courses in the Master of Science in Library and Information Science offered by Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, NY. This additional location for the Palmer School's master's program will result in improvements in the educational experience of both faculty and students in Westchester County, said Anne Woodsworth, dean of the Palmer School at Long Island University.

"This new partnership will ensure that the Palmer School's students and faculty have access to the best possible resources and facilities, such as Pace's electronic classrooms and its rapidly growing electronic library," said Dr. Woodsworth. "We truly appreciate the interest and commitment that William J. Murdock, the Pace University Librarian, and his administrators have in building this strategic alliance."

Long Island University's C.W. Post Campus previously offered courses in Library and Information Science at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, Westchester County, NY. Students who choose to take most of their courses at Pace University in Pleasantville must fulfill a six-credit residency requirement at either the C.W. Post Campus in Brookville, Long Island, or at New York University's Bobst Library in Manhattan. The full Master of Science in Library and Information Science is offered at both of these locations.

In addition to the 36-credit M.S. program that integrates information and library science, the School offers a B.S. in Information Transfer, a Ph.D. in Information Studies, and certificate programs in Archives and Records Management. All programs are accredited by the American Library Association and registered with the New York State Education Department.
