New Concentration in Management Information Systems Added
to Undergraduate Business Program at C.W. Post
September 10, 1998 - The 21st Century's demand for competent information
technology specialists is being met with a new program of study offered
by the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University in Brookville, NY.
Long noted for its programs in management, marketing, finance and accounting,
the College of Management at C.W. Post has added a concentration in Management
Information Systems (MIS) to its bachelor's degree program in business
administration. Students can take courses in this concentration beginning
in September 1998.
In addition to providing undergraduate students with a strong foundation
in managerial, marketing, and finance skills, the MIS concentration will
give students a strategic advantage in the job market as they learn about
the tremendous potential that information technology, information systems,
and information management provides in solving business and non-business
problems around the world, according to Dr. Shailendra Palvia, Director
of MIS for the College of Management
Students must take the following five courses to complete the MIS concentration:
Principles of Management Information Systems; Business Systems Analysis
and Database Design; Management Support Systems; Management of Telecommunications
and Networks; and Managing Information Technology and Electronic Commerce
in a Multinational Business Environment.
According to Dr. Robert Sanator, Dean of the College of Management,
the new concentration will help meet the world's demand for nearly a quarter
million information technology jobs into the year 2005. "Information
has been clearly recognized as a corporate resource on par with people,
money and material," Dr. Sanator said. "In the global context,
IT and MIS are recognized as critical enablers of the globalization of
business. Graduates of our program will be positioned for success beyond
the year 2000 as they take us further into the new millennium."
Taught by leading faculty with specialties in management information
systems, the MIS Concentration program is now accepting applications for
the Fall 1998 and January 1999 semesters. For additional information, call
