C.W. Post Professor Launches New Research Journal to Address Information Technology Explosion

September 16, 1998 - The explosion of information technology (IT) applications in almost all sectors of business, scientific, educational and government arenas is fostering a widening gap between theory and practice, frameworks and applications, making it difficult for users to understand and for experts to control. In response, the world's top information technology experts, led by Professor Shailendra Palvia, Ph.D. of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, will launch the Journal of Information Technology Cases and Applications (JITCA) in January 1999. JITCA's focus will be on case studies and application studies that explain existing theories and concepts, according to Dr. Palvia, of Hicksville, NY who serves as editor-in-chief of the new journal and who is professor and director of Management Information Systems in C.W. Post's College of Management. It will also help in building new theories and frameworks. "This refereed quarterly international journal is supported by IT scholars from around the world and will disseminate the most timely information to educators, managers, practitioners, and researchers all over the world," said Dr. Palvia.

Beginning in January 1999, JITCA will publish articles about cases and applications that affect all organizations - from small start-ups to multinational firms - in every country in the world, whether advanced, newly industrialized, developing, or under-developed. Furthermore, the primary thrust of a case or application may include artificial intelligence, business process reengineering, cross-cultural issues, cybernetics, decision support systems, electronic commerce, firewalls and Internet, groupware, information systems, robotics, webonomics, and so on.

JITCA will also review cutting edge IT books and publish interviews with leading IT experts from industry, government and academia. Global associate editors, industry editors, book editors and members of the editorial review board include noted Ph.D.s from the United States and abroad from such noted universities as Warwick Business School; University of Nebraska's College of Information Science and Technology; Babson College; University of South Carolina; Erasmus University (Netherlands); University of Technology (Sydney); Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and INSEAD (France), among others. Three of the four advisory editors are themselves editors-in-chief of prestigious international journals and one advisory editor is contributing editor of the leading business magazine, Forbes.

"Given the explosive number of firms successfully employing IT in Singapore and elsewhere, and the large number of cases written about them, the journal is timely," says Dr. Lai Lai Tung of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
