Thanks to a generous donation from former Miracle-Gro CEO Horace Hagedorn,
the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University has begun preparing
for the construction of a new state-of-the-art greenhouse. The facility
will be used for education and research in botany, biology, and environmental
science.
The new greenhouse will be located in Riggs Park on the site of
a pool that was no longer in use. (Students have access to a new
competitive and recreational 8-lane swimming pool, part of the recently
constructed $18,000,000 Jeanette and Edmund T. Pratt, Jr. Recreation
Center )
Demolition of the old pool took place on
December 14, 2001. (Click here to see photos) The new greenhouse
is expected to be complete by summer 2002.
