To mark the one-year anniversary of the tragic events of September
11, 2001, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University will host
several commemorative events on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, including
a concert with 400 singers, a candlelight vigil, and student and faculty
readings of poetry and essays.
Titled "Commemorating September 11: Looking Back, Moving Forward,"
the day will begin at 8:46 a.m. (the time of first attack on the
World Trade Center) with a 60-minute performance of Mozart's Requiem
in Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. At 12:30 p.m., a ceremony
on the Great Lawn will include a reading of the names of the C.W.
Post student and 12 alumni who were lost in the World Trade Center
attacks. That evening a candlelight vigil with musical selections
will be held on the steps of the Interfaith Center beginning at
8:46 p.m.

Rolling Requiem Concert
8:46 a.m., Tilles Center for the Performing Arts
The Long Island University Chorus, along with other Long
Island choral groups and individual singers, will participate
in a world-wide concert commemoration of those lives lost and
those who helped others on September 11, 2001. At precisely 8:46
a.m., the time of the first attack of the World Trade Center,
more than 400 singers will perform Mozart's Requiem
at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts. This event is part of
the "Rolling Requiem," where choirs from around the
world will perform Mozart's Requiem in each time zone beginning
at 8:46 a.m. on September 11. Beginning at the International Date
Line and soaring from time zone to time zone, these heartfelt
concerts will provide 24 hours of music in a tribute of hope and

HBO Video Presentation: In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Hillwood Art Museum, second floor, Hillwood

The HBO video presentation titled "In Memoriam: New York
City, 9/11/01" will run continuously in the front window
of the Hillwood Art Museum. The 60-minute video presentation is
sponsored by the Hillwood Art Museum, HBO and the American Association

Remembrance Ceremony
12:30 p.m., Tent, Great Lawn (rain location: Hillwood Commons Lecture
Hall)
The public, along with members of the C.W. Post Campus community,
are invited to a 45-minute ceremony to remember those lives lost
on September 11. Dr. Joseph Shenker, provost of the C.W. Post
Campus, will offer opening remarks and read the names of the 12
alumni and 1 student who perished in the World Trade Center. The
event will also feature C.W. Post musical groups and a keynote
address by Dr. David J. Steinberg, president of Long Island University.
Wall of Remembrance
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hillwood Commons
Members of the campus community are invited to sign or write
their personal thoughts of September 11 on the Wall of Remembrance
located inside Hillwood Commons.
Ribbon Distribution
10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Hillwood Commons
Red, white and blue ribbons will be available at the Hillwood
Information Desk and will be distributed at various events throughout
the day.
Project Liberty Counseling Workshops
10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Front Study Lounge, 2nd Floor, Hillwood
Commons
Mental health counselors from Project Liberty will present two
workshops titled "Peace Within: Managing Stress in the Aftermath
of 9/11 and Beyond."
Catholic Mass
5 p.m., Interfaith Center
This mass will be dedicated to the country and families of victims.
Coffeehouse: An Artful Remembrance of September 11
7 p.m., Interfaith Center, downstairs
An opportunity for students, faculty and staff to present their
personal reflections of September 11 through song, photography
displays, the readings of essays and poetry, or other art forms.
The event will feature a reading by renowned poet and C.W. Post
English Professor Norbert Krapf who will read from his poem, "Walt
Whitman at Ground Zero." The night will also feature a performance
by the band Red 11, whose members are C.W. Post students and alumni.
Father Ted Brown, C.W. Post Catholic chaplain, will exhibit his
personal photographs of lower Manhattan taken just days after

Candlelight Vigil

A candlelight ceremony with music. Refreshments follow at 9 p.m.
in the Long Island Room, downstairs, Winnick Student Center.
Counseling Support Services
Ongoing
Counselors from our Student Health and Counseling Center as well
as psychologists and staff from our Clinical Psychology Doctoral
program are available to any staff, faculty or student who would
like to meet with a counselor/therapist for free confidential
assistance. The Interfaith Center will be open all day on September
11 for those looking for a place for quiet reflection and prayer.

and Experiences from W.W. II; Tragedy and Representation from
the Holocaust to 9/11: Cinematic Challenges and Opportunities;
Education for Democratic Citizenship and Global Peace; and Fear
