HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER?
There are two steps to the application process:
- The students must first apply to Long Island University/C.W.
Post Campus and receive notification of his/her acceptance into
the University. The student should indicate that he/she is learning
disabled on the application form and/or in a cover letter.
- Upon acceptance into the University, the student must complete
an application form for the Academic Resource Center, write an
essay and submit a Diagnostic Evaluation conducted within the
past three years.
WHAT REQUIREMENTS DOES A STUDENT NEED FOR ADMISSION TO THE
UNIVERSITY?
All admissions criteria apply to every potential Academic Resource
Center student. The Office of Admissions number is (516) 299-2900.
Each student should call the office to request an application
and admissions information. Long Island University's C.W. Post
Campus does not discriminate against qualified individuals with
disabilities in admission or access to programs.
Please note that admission to the University is separate and
distinct from his or her acceptance into the Academic Resource Center.
HOW DOES A STUDENT OBTAIN AN APPLICATION FOR THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE
CENTER?
Once a student has been accepted into the University, the Office
of Admissions sends a referral form to the Center. The Academic
Resource Center then sends the student an application form and
other pertinent data from the Academic Resource Center.
IS THERE A DEADLINE TO APPLY TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER?
To be admitted to the Program for the Fall semester, the application
form and other pertinent data for the first 50 slots must be received
by March 12. For the additional 10-15 slots all pertinent data
must be received by July.
WHAT INFORMATION MUST A STUDENT SEND TO THE ACADEMIC RESOURCE
CENTER UPON APPLICATION?
The student must submit:
- A completed application form.
- A comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation, not more than three years
old. The evaluation must be completed by a qualified professional
and it must identify the nature of the learning disability. Results
of the WAIS-III are required. The evaluation should outline the
student's strengths and needs and recommendations for instruction
must also be cited.
- A handwritten essay of approximately 150 words.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT NEEDS DOCUMENTATION OF HIS/HER LEARNING
DISABILITY?
Diagnostic testing services are not available on campus. The
Center will refer a student to an outside psychologist. However,
the majority of students are tested prior to application to the
Academic Resource Center.
IS A FORMAL INTERVIEW REQUIRED?
Once the student's application, Psycho-Educational Evaluation
Report and essay are on file, the prospective student will be
invited to meet with the Director and Associate Director for a
formal interview. The interview is an integral part of the admissions
process for enrollment in the Academic Resource Center.
HOW DOES A STUDENT KNOW IF HE/SHE HAS BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE
ACADEMIC RESOURCE CENTER?
The student receives an acceptance letter from the Academic Resource
Center along with a bill for payment of the fee to the Bursar.
Payment of the fee secures the student's slot for the Fall semester.
HOW DOES A STUDENT APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID IF NEEDED?
The number for the Financial Assistance Office is (516)299-2338.
Please refer to that office for additional information.

and transfer students before classes begin in September. In conjunction
with C.W. Post's Orientation program, the Academic Resource Center
holds a MANDATORY orientation session for all freshman and transfer
students enrolled in the Center.
