- conflict evolution/conflict resolution
- communication skills
- respect for self and others

*For the
purposes of in-service credit, this program comprises 18 hours of
instructional time. Teachers should check with individual school
district policy on in-service credit requirements and reimbursement.
Who is Eligible? Exploring Conflict Creatively
is open to educators of all levels and disciplines, as well as
school and district administrators,
curriculum specialists, artists, arts administrators, and higher
education practitioners. Teachers who are currently involved in the
School Partnership Program are strongly encouraged to attend.
Workshop Facilitators and Presenters:
Robert Morgan:
Robert is a
multi-award-winning playwright, director and actor who has helped
establish Canada as one of the world’s foremost producers of theatre
for young audiences. His work has been performed around the world,
including Cuba, the former Czechoslovakia, the United Kingdom,
France and extensively throughout the United States and Canada. He
founded the Children’s Peace Theatre as well as the drama program at
the Linden School in Toronto and freelances internationally as a
teacher of drama and playwriting. He was honoured as a
‘Distinguished Alumnae’ by Trent University in 2006 and currently
lives in Toronto with his wife and fellow Trent
graduate, Susan Morgan.
Lyle Cogen:
Lyle is a
musical performer & recording artist, songwriter, and teaching
artist who has toured nationwide, bringing her acclaimed music to
families in cities across America. Her recordings have received
scores of awards and accolades from national newspapers and
magazines, such as Parenting, Sesame Street Parents
and Family Fun. Lyle has worked as a teaching artist for
Tilles Center for the Performing Arts for the past five seasons and
was recognized as one of the Top 50 Business Women on Long Island.
Her newest production, “Sticks & Stones,” was written to address the
current crisis of bullying with our nation’s young people.
Teachers
will also attend two performances for young audiences which will
explore aspects of internal and external conflict. Activities
explored in this workshop are theatre-based and participatory.
