The Internship Program

Hello!

More than 1,300 students in all majors have traveled the country and abroad to participate in the Southampton College Internship Program. Since its inception 28 years ago, this successful program has attracted increasing numbers of motivated students who recognize the value of working under the supervision of respected members of the scientific and professional communities.

To date, 33 of the 36 Southampton students who have won the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship for graduate study abroad were Natural Science majors who had completed Internships while undergraduates. These statistics are extraordinary for a campus our size. The reason for the success of the program is simple; our students are the best representatives of the College. They are well screened before they go out, and our Internship Sponsors have learned to depend, as well as look forward to, Southampton students returning semester after semester.

The remarkable success of the Internship Program has increased the visibility of the College all over the world. We have placed large numbers of students in major research facilities and laboratories in the United States and internationally. Many of our English majors have worked as interns with major newspapers and publishers; our Social Science majors have worked in hospitals and social service agencies. In addition, many of our students have presented their research findings and papers at significant conferences in the US and abroad.
