| I
already have a Hotmail (or Yahoo! or AOL, etc.) e-mail address.
Why should I use my LIU e-mail account? |
My
Campus e-mail is a useful and convenient service provided
to you free of charge. It is the address to which the
Registrar, Provost’s Office and other campus organizations
will send University-wide and campus-specific news, announcements
and reminders that will be of interest to you as a student. |
| |
| Does
my LIU student e-mail account have any additional features? |
In
addition to e-mail service, your account provides you with:
• Address Book
• Calendar
• Notes
• Personal storage space and file manager.
|
| If
I decide not to use My Campus e-mail can I forward my LIU
e-mail to another address? |
If
you choose not to use My Campus e-mail, you can have your
LIU e-mail sent to you at another address. You’ll need to
log on to My Campus, click on Forwards and enter the e-mail
address where you plan to read your mail. You can choose
to leave a copy of messages in your My Campus Inbox.
|
| |
| Once
I’ve logged on, how do I change my password? |
Click
on the Password link on the left side of
the screen. Enter your old (current) password, your new
password twice and click on Change your password.
|
| |
| Can
I personalize My Campus e-mail to reflect my preferences? |
The
Options menu allows you to tailor the appearance, performance,
and content of your e-mail. You can:
• Change the name, address, and signature that people
see when they read and reply to your e-mail
• Set display options such as how many messages you see
on each page and how messages are sorted
• Set how often you want to check for new mail
• Create filtering rules to organize your incoming mail,
sort it into folders, and delete spam.
|
| |
| How
do I save (upload) a file to in order to save it to the
server? |
Click
on File Manager. Type the name of the file
(including path) you want to upload. If you don’t know the
exact name of the file, use the Browse
button to navigate and choose the correct file. Click
Upload file.
|
| |
| How
do I download files from the server? |
After
you’ve logged on to My Campus e-mail, click on File
Manager to view your saved files. Click to select
the item you want to open and then click on the Download
icon. (You will need to have the appropriate software installed
on the computer you are using for the download.)
|
| |
| How
much storage space do I have on the server? |
Students
are permitted to save up to 8 MB of data in file storage
and up to 7 MB of e-mail.
|
| |
| What
should I do if I reach my quota of storage space? |
Deleting
old messages and unused files from your Inbox, sent-mail
and other folders will create free space in your account
on the server.
|
| |
| Is
there anything I can do to reduce spam? |
My
Campus e-mail supports filters, which can perform a variety
of actions on incoming messages. By clicking on Filters
you can create a Whitelist, Blacklist or other Rules.
With Filters and/or Rules enabled, incoming messages can
be deleted or moved to a folder you select.
|
| |
| How
can I reduce clutter in my Inbox? |
Creating
folders is a good way to keep your Inbox manageable. To
create a new folder, click the Folders
icon in the Inbox window. Click on the Choose Action
pull-down menu and select Create Folder.
Enter the name of the new folder into the text box of the
prompt window and click OK. The new folder
will be displayed in the Folder Navigator screen.
|
| |
| The
e-mail message I was composing just disappeared! What happened? |
As
with other web-based services, your session may “time out”
after a period of inactivity. With My Campus e-mail, this
will happen after 24 minutes. If you’re going to compose
a lengthy message over a period of time, it’s a good idea
to save a draft of the message periodically. That way you
can finish and/or send it later. Simply click Save
Draft at the top of the Message Composition window.
The draft will be saved in the “Drafts” folder.
|
| |
| Where
can I view messages I’ve sent? |
To
specify whether sent messages should be saved, and where,
click on Options, Personal Information
and then Edit your Identities. Click the
Save sent mail check box and then select
a folder from the drop-down menu. The Default Value for
this folder is sent-mail. Keep in mind
that saving copies of sent messages reduces the amount of
space available for storing other files and documents.
|
| |
| How
do I retrieve a message I accidentally deleted? |
To
retrieve a message you accidentally deleted, simply move
the message from the Trash folder to any other folder. If
you've already emptied the Trash, however, you won't be
able to retrieve your message.
|
| |
| How
do I empty the Trash folder? |
Click
Empty Trash in the top row of icons. Once
you empty the trash folder, messages are deleted permanently
from the server and cannot be retrieved.
|
| |
| Where
can I get answers to other questions I have about using
My Campus mail? |
The
Help feature presents you with a list of commonly
used functions and step-by-step instructions on how to carry
them out.
As with any other e-mail package, it is a good idea to practice
basic rules concerning security and privacy. For example,
as a general rule, you shouldn’t open files attached to
e-mail messages from people you don't know. Sometimes viruses
are sent as attachments to e-mail messages.
