Ruth Golden

Director of Vocal Studies
Director, Opera Ensemble

Ruth Golden is the Director of Vocal Studies for the Department of Music at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. From 1985-1991, under the direction of Ms. Beverly Sills, Miss Golden appeared at the New York City Opera as Mimi in LA BOHEME, Marguerite in FAUST, both Pamina and First Lady in Mozart’s DIE ZAUBERFLOTE, Zerlina in DON GIOVANNI, and a variety of operetta heroines in THE STUDENT PRINCE, THE MIKADO, and THE MERRY WIDOW. In addition to LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER, Miss Golden appeared in New York at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Symphony Space, and Merkin Concert Hall. Miss Golden's concert engagements included appearances at the Kennedy Center, Los Angeles Music Center, The Ravinia Festival, The Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. From 1995 to 2001, Miss Golden appeared as Artist/Faculty with Martin Katz and Graham Johnson at SONGFEST, hosted in Southern California.

In addition to her national performances (including 35 of our 50 states), Miss Golden appeared internationally with the Canadian Opera Company (Toronto), Orchestra Pasdeloup in Paris, Chartres, and Rheims; the Prague Philharmonic in Prague, and the Orchestra Royale of Madrid in both Madrid and Lisbon. Miss Golden opened the 2000 season appearing with Marilyn Horne and Martin Katz in Los Angeles for the University of Southern California's Koldofsky Memorial Benefit Recital. As a member of the Koch International Classics family of distinguished recording artists, Miss Golden's discography includes works of Delius, Warlock, Vaughan-Williams, Rodrigo, and Barber.

At C.W. Post, Professor Golden directs the Opera Ensemble ,and teaches the Introduction to Music Literature, the Vocal Performance Workshop, Opera History, and Song Literature. Professor Golden's students have gone on to further study and performance at the Santa Fe Opera, Cleveland Orchestra, Opera Orchestra of New York, Minnesota Opera, Sarasota Opera, Palm Beach Opera, the Music Academy of the West, the Chautauqua Institution, the Manhattan School of Music, LA BOHEME on Broadway, the Opera Institute/Boston University, New England Conservatory of Music, and the Utah Festival Opera, among others. A nationally recognized Master Teacher and Voice Instructor, Professor Golden has appeared in Recital/Master Classes for the Glimmerglass Opera Young American Artists Program; the Oberlin in Italy Summer Opera Festival; the Chautauqua Institution Vocal Program; the AJ Fletcher Opera Institute at the North Carolina School of the Arts; as well as The Julliard School, Indiana University, McGill University, the University of Southern California, Songfest, Eeh Wah University in Seoul, Korea, and the University of California at both the Irvine and Los Angeles campuses.

Miss Golden is an active member of the adjudicating panel for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
